Kingman at a Glance
Known as the Heart of Historic Route 66, Kingman is located roughly halfway between
Chicago and Los
Angeles, on a stretch of the historical highway that is still in use today.
Although Route 66 was decommissioned in 1985 and replaced by Interstate 40, the
famous highway continues to live on in American legend. Founded in 1882 as a railroad
town, Kingman boasts over 60 buildings that are listed on the National Register
of Historic Buildings, making it a popular destination for history buffs. The
Historic
Route 66 Museum is an attraction that features photos, murals and dioramas
of groups that have traveled the historic highway. Visitors also enjoy the Mohave
Museum of History and Arts, which commemorates the history of the area through
artifacts, documents and photographs. Outdoor enthusiasts are drawn to Kingman,
as hiking, biking, camping, wildlife viewing and picnicking are popular area pastimes.
Nearby Hualapi
Mountain Park is an ideal place to engage in outdoor recreation.
